My sister's Baby Shower

2013 has has really started out as an amazing year.
I am looking forward to everything that this year has to offer!
March 16th I hosted my sister, Tracey's baby shower with  my mom and sister Kim! It is so surreal to think that my little sister that I used to goof around with is married and having a baby! It is one of those "Circle of Life" moments that just sort of floored me. I am soooo proud of her and I can not wait to meet Luella. My husband Aaron made the cake for the shower.

I wanted to make my sister a custom rubber stamp that she could use for anything with my niece. I found these card "Thank you" cards at Target and then I stamped Luella in the lower left and I think it looks amazing!

We offer custom rubber stamps in our store: Custom Rubber Stamp.  I can work with you to design a custom stamp for your next project too!

Pinterest: Christmas Card Display

Our Cards this year if you want to see them larger click on the photo above.
During the Christmas holiday one of my favorite things is Christmas Cards. I love seeing the new family photos, the handmade cards, and reading the update letters. The downside is that I never have a great way to show them off. I usually try and add some on the tables but they end up falling off the table and landing on the floor. This year I was inspired to change that. I wanted to make something that would be fun and crafty but also show off the cards.

This is how it looks without the cards.. love it!!
My amazing and crafty husband took four boards (three feet each) and sanded them down. (You could make it any size that you wanted or based on the number of cards you get) Then he made a nice frame out of them using screws and wood glue. Once that set he painted it with kitchen block paint. We talked about changing the color, but decided that the cards would have enough color on them. Finally he added chicken wire to the back of the frame.  Once that was all set we used clothing pins to hang up each of the cards. It was a half a day project with a huge impact!

We now have this handing in our living room and it is amazing how the Christmas tree lights bounce off the cards. It is always great to be able to see each and every card!

I think this could be used for more than just holiday cards. It could be a great way to show off your photos all year! It would be sooo easy to change them up. Get sick of a photo.. change it out.

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!

DIY Pinterest Project: Etching on Glass DIY Bride, Candle Holders, and more!

He made himself a candle holder of steel.. actually glass, but he is in love with it!
My husband has found a new hobby and that is candle making. He wanted to see if he could make them more than just candles. We saw the Martha Stewart Frost Etching and thought it was amazing and worth a try. We found that it was very simple to do this process and the results were really good. I am in love with how the final candle holder looked! I think he will only get better with practice!!

How do this:

  1. We made a stencil that we cut out on heavy paper, we have also seen a lot of demos where they use vinyl to stick to the glass.
  2. Add the stencil to your project.
  3. Then apply a layer of your etching cream on the exposed glass. Follow the instructions on the bottle and allow the cream to sit and rough up the glass surface. We let it sit on the glass for about ten minutes.
  4. This  process makes the etching permanent, make sure you are happy with the design, it can not be removed. The cream is an acid, and etches away at the surface of your glass. Transforming the look of your glass permanently.  So you cannot rub or wash the etching off.
  5. Then I rinsed off really well with water and used my fingers to rub it all off.  Then I peeled off the stencil and rinsed again with soap and water.

Uses for this:

  • BRIDAL: I could see someone use this to create their bridal center pieces. You could come up with a custom design and have it all over your reception
  • BABY SHOWER: How adorable could this be? Each person could take home a little gift that will remind them of the special day. Maybe the baby's name on it or G for Girl B for boy! Then you add the color candle inside the holder?
  • UNLIMITED IDEAS: I have so many ideas in my head on what Aaron and I can do with this!! I can't wait to see what we come up with next!

Pinterest Inspired: Christmas Ornaments

I love being inspired by amazing crafters on Pinterest. I found this post in a blog (Christmas Holiday Blog) and then again on Pinterest and knew that I had to try it. It only cost $5.00 with all of the Black Friday sales at Michael's. We took the two boxes of ornaments and six yards of ribbon. We tied up the ornaments at different heights to make the fancy cluster you see! I love the creative projects that I find on Pinterest!

It does two things:
  1. Block the ugly light over my sink.
  2. It reflects the light and brightens up my whole kitchen!
What do you think of it? Happy Holidays!

DIY Wedding Candy Favor Bags

Using a JessicaLynnOriginal.com rubber stamp you can add in information on your bag.
We can create custom art for you or create something that will match your theme!

What a great way to get your guests give out candy bags? I am a huge fan of the adorable bag trend that allows you to create a gift for your gifts that fits in with your theme!

To get started, you will need to purchase some craft bags similar to this one. You can order them online; they come in a variety of sizes and colors. My suggestion would be to use Archival, Fabric, or Permanent ink so that it will hold up in all elements.

It's nice to put a little note right on the bottom there that says, "Please use this bag to fill up on treats that are at the candy bar," or something similar to that. And then your guests will scoop the different candies and M&Ms that you have into their bags that they will be able to keep as a favor.

The best part about this project is that you can share it with your hubby-to-be or make it a night in with the girls party! We can create you a custom stamp or any of our items would be perfect for this project. Custom Rubber Stamps by JessicaLynnOriginal.com

Santa loves to send mail

I love thinking about all of the heartfelt traditions that my Mother started with me when I was a child that I look forward to continuing on with my children someday. I would also like to start a few new ones.. maybe baking cookie on Christmas Eve morning for Santa, donating our time at a food shelter to make sure they understand that we are all not in the same place, or maybe just singing with a guitar in the living room.

Last year I met a wonderful customer whom I just love what she did with one of our stamps. She created a "Thank You" letter from the big man himself. She offers it on her store Take a look at her Etsy Store  I love that she uses our "Santa Seal" as the return address on her envelopes.

We do offer this stamp in our JessicaLynnOriginal's Santa Shop. I love the idea of him leaving a note for my kids so they know that they were thanked for being good and leaving him something too!

Happy Holidays!!

Recycled DIY Business Cards - Make your Own

I love the look of the brown paper or cardboard business cards. I love the look of them. My husband eats a LOT of cereal and there is always a lot of cardboard going out to the recycle bin and I thought why not just use that to make business cards?

YOU WILL NEED:
  1. Cereal Boxes (blank insides.. watch out some do some printing on the inside)
  2. Pen
  3. Scissors
  4. Custom Rubber Stamp (http://www.jessicalynnoriginal.com/product_p/smallbusiness-00021.htm) We can create a custom rubber stamp (self inking or rubber stamp)
  5. Ink for your stamp
  6. Markers to color in the cards (Copic or Crayola)

First (above) I made a "template" card. Normal business cards 2x3.5 inches. But this is your chance to make something one of a kind. You can make a circle or square.. whatever you want!

Second trace out the template on the outside of the cereal box. Then when you cut you won't see the lines on the right side of the business card.

I cleaned up the edges and then too my self inking rubber stamp and added my contact information to the card. JessicaLynnOriginal can create you a custom "business" card stamp. We can add art or draw something original out for you. (http://www.jessicalynnoriginal.com/product_p/smallbusiness-00021.htm

Finally I used my copic markers and colored in the card. What I love is that this project took me all of about 2 minutes to complete and talk about green! Yep.. recycled all the way!! What do you think?

Same Location Different Year....

This year has been filled a lot of ups and downs... we decided that we needed a break away for a few days to try and just get life back to normal. Aaron and I went down to Disney World (our favorite place) and we always find ourselves taking a photo of the two of us in front of the Wilderness Lodge. (Seriously I have 8 trips with the same photo) We got to thinking that this might be a fun idea.

THE PLAN
Every time that we visit Disney we are going to take our photo in the "SAME" location and then add it to this frame that we bought at the Lodge. We visit often enough and have family there that this shouldn't be a problem! It is going to be so much fun to watch as kids are added and down the road their kids. I love it.

Have you ever done this? Maybe every year you take a photo at your house in the same place or a favorite park.  Have a great rest of your weekend!! If you have not ... think about it. It is really amazing to look at the "older" versions and remember those amazing vacations or years gone by.
